APFW
2019, jointly organized and hosted by the Korea Forest
Service (KFS) and the Food and Agriculture Organization
of the United Nations (FAO), was one of the largest and
most important forestry gatherings in the Asia-Pacific
region in 2019. This was the fourth Asia-Pacific Forestry
Week following Hanoi, Vietnam (April 2008), Beijing, China
(November 2011), and Pampanga, the Philippines (February
2016). APFW 2019 comprised various workshops, seminars,
and partner events organized along five streams. .

The 28th Session of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission
(APFC)
17- 21 June 2019
APAFRI participated in this main session as an Executive
Member of APFC. During the session, the Commission unanimously
elected Korea Forest Service as the new chairperson to
hold office until the commencement of the 29th Session.

Launching of the report of Asia Pacific Forest Sector
Outlook Study III
18 June 2019
The final report was launched during this side event.
APAFRI, with an LoA, provided logistic supports to gather
a number of panellists for the event.

International
Symposium on Global Forest & Landscape Restoration
18 June 2019
APAFRI with the annual allocation from NIFoS provided
support for five staff members from APAFRI member institutions
to participate in this forum. They were from Forestry
Research, Development and Innovation Agency (FOERDIA),
Indonesia; Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), India;
Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI),
Philippines; National Taiwan University, Taiwan; and Kasetsart
University, Thailand. The symposium shared Korea’s experiences
on forest and landscape restoration in various aspects
such as policy, science technology, and international
cooperation.

Roles of Research
Institute on Forest Plantation and Landscape
19 June 2019
The
session was organized by the Asia Forest Institute (AFI)
using the fund from NIFoS allocation through APAFRI. This
programme was participated by forest related institutions
in Asia region with the objective of experiences sharing
on successful project/programme at regional level on forest
plantation and restoration.
