The International Symposium on Reclamation, Rehabilitation and Restoration Towards a Greener Asia was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur on 3rd to 5th July, 2012. Oral and poster presentations were presented in the first two days of the Symposium followed by a technical visit on the third day to Research Station of Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) in Bidor (Tin Tailings Afforestation Centre – TTAC). The Opening Ceremony was graced by Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, represented by Dato’ Dr Abdul Latif Mohmod, Director General of FRIM while the congratulatory remark was read by Dr Joo-hoon Lim, representative of Director General of Korea Forest Research Institute.
The Symposium was attended by a total of 64 participants from 16 countries represented by academicians, researchers, public and private practitioners, post-graduate students as well as non-governmental organizations. The Symposium provided a platform of sharing and learning with three keynote speeches, 32 oral presentations and 27 poster papers presented on the 3rd and 4th July 2012. The three keynote addresses were delivered by Dr David Lamb (Australia), Professor Su-Young Woo (Republic of Korea) and Dr Ang Lai Hoe (Malaysia).
